  • About Us

WaterLegacy is an award-winning non-profit founded in 2009 by citizens concerned that copper-nickel mining in sulfide rock proposed for Northeastern Minnesota would leave a toxic legacy of perpetual pollution. As a result of grassroots organizing, education, and earned media, we've grown to approximately 10,000 members.

We are working to protect Lake Superior, the Boundary Waters Wilderness, thousands of Minnesota lakes and streams, drinking water, human health and a sustainable economy based on a high-value natural environment. We combine professional advocacy, grassroots organizing and citizen engagement, social and earned media, and collaboration with Indian tribes and environmental allies.
