The BARKA Foundation is a grassroots community-led social enterprise that is focused on sustainable development in Burkina Faso, West Africa and community engagement and education in the United States. BARKA is an all-volunteer organization that is affiliated with the United Nations and USAID. BARKA uses the UN’s Millennium Development Goals as a holistic framework for poverty reduction in rural Burkina. Key strategies include accessibility to safe drinking water and sanitation, women’s empowerment, cultural arts, and building relationships of reciprocity between communities in North America and villages in Burkina Faso.
