About Us

Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the Center for Economic Democracy advances visions and practices for a just and sustainable world after capitalism. Getting there requires shifting power across our economies, politics and cultures. By modeling transformation locally, we build the foundation for systemic change.

"Economic Democracy" means people and communities owning and deciding together how to manage our collective needs, from housing and food to energy and economic development.

Economic democracy asserts that we have the power to dream, plan and build more just and sustainable futures for ourselves and our children.

Economic democracy has played an integral role in liberation struggles and movements for social change.

In keeping with this lineage, our organization's work is to:

  • Educate and inspire people who seek a world beyond capitalism
  • Launch & steward campaigns & collaboratives to build democratic economies
  • Redirect capital to heal communities and our relationship to the living earth
