About Us

About the Hovde Foundation:

Founded in 1998, the Hovde Foundation is now focused on building group shelters/homes for vulnerable children in the developing world. In January 2006, the Hovde Foundation opened its first “Casa Hovde” shelter in Mexico City for homeless children living on the street. There, we provide a comprehensive range of care to 50 children from ages 5-18. The Hovde Foundation plans to build 20 of these homes over the next 20 years around the world, primarily in Latin America and Africa. Our second Casa Hovde opens in September in Huánuco, Peru, and will care for sexually abused children. Three other homes are in development/construction in Ghana, Rwanda, and Kenya. Overseen by Hovde, the homes are operated by local partners. Based in Washington DC, the Hovde Foundation currently grants about $1.5M/year.
