Harry T. Burleigh Society

The Harry T. Burleigh Society continues African American baritone and composer Harry T. Burleigh’s radical legacy of disrupting boundaries and challenging social norms to address the issues of the day through art. ​Through its public performance events, ​the Burleigh Society​ offers opportunities to a new generation of composers, arrangers, publishers and performers. By circulating the ever expanding black art music archive, we invigorate the study of Burleigh, his contemporaries, and the generations that follow​. ​The Society consciously shapes arenas where interracial, creative, inter-religious, international, and intergenerational, encounters thrive—all fortified by beauty, seriousness and compensation that follow Burleigh’s model and raise awareness about the broad swath of his impact.
