About Us

The YWCA began serving women and families in La Crosse in 1903. The services offered by the YWCA at that time included childcare, exercise, emergency shelters and leadership programming for young women and girls. Over time the YWCA has changed, as have the needs of young women. Our mission however, remains the same:

Eliminating Racism

Empowering Women

The YWCA mission is powerful, but the economic environment for non-profit organizations is an on-going challenge. The YWCA for the 21st century requires consistent and vigilant efforts by members who are strong alone and fearless together. The YWCA is unafraid to tackle the powerful issues of social and economic justice by developing a greater sense of community among people in the Coulee Region. The programs offered by the YWCA reflect these goals and define the issues which become the voice for women and a force for change.
