Seattle BrainWorks a program of PROVAIL

About Us

PROVAIL’s Seattle BrainWorks is the only program of its kind in Washington – an innovative program that seeks to support the growth and recovery of individuals living with traumatic brain injuries in our community.

Through a combination of lifestyle enrichment and structured learning opportunities, BrainWorks activities help members prepare for returning to positive social and family relationships, school, work and volunteering.

Members have the opportunity to participate as frequently or infrequently as they wish. A monthly calendar spells out both enrichment and return-to-work activities occurring during the week, and members can attend part or all of any activity they choose. Enrichment activities are designed to target the areas of learning that people recovering from brain injuries can benefit from – mindfulness groups, classes on organization, support groups, yoga classes, public speaking, positive interactions, stress management, getting a food handler’s permit – the list goes on, and is ever-changing. BrainWorks staff makes every effort to have community members lead these groups so that participants are benefiting from other members of the communities where they live, recreate, and work.

In addition to enrichment activities, members can participate in structured activities that contribute to the running of the program. Members have the chance to be included in the administrative work of BrainWorks – from data entry, to checking and updating social media, working shifts at a member-run snack shop, and planning and preparing group meals.

New this year, members can also participate in a variety of initiatives geared to support people with brain injuries to return to work if they are able. Job clubs, resume writing, and goal planning are all activities that go on as part of the regular schedule. In a variety of new ways, BrainWorks and PROVAIL staff are working together to support people with brain injuries either returning to work, or learning new skills to obtain new employment.
