District Impact Skating Club

District Impact Skating Club (DISC), a minority-led non-profit organization, founded in 2019 by Sheldonna Harris, Tomeka Gueory, and Eric Karlins. We were founded at Washington, DC’s only indoor ice skating rink, Fort Dupont Ice Arena in Ward 7 of Washington, DC. We serve as a pipeline for skaters from Fort Dupont Ice Arena’s Learn to Skate, Advanced Figure Skating, and Synchronized Ice Skating programs wishing to grow in their beloved sport of figure skating.

Accomplishments

• District Impact Skating Club was founded in 2019 by Sheldonna Harris,Tomeka Gueory, and Eric Karlins
• We are a Full US Figure Skating Member Club!
• District Synchro, led by Coach Abigail Hable, created in June 2021
• Through our DISC ASPIRE Skating Academy Program, we continue with Covid-19 safe off-ice conditioning and on-ice sessions which included Yoga and exercise, artistry, and Moves in the Field (MIF), and exhibition opportunities with Artistry.
• We maintain an excellent relationship with our Home Rink, Fort Dupont Ice Arena

Our mission is to make advanced ice skating accessible and equitable for everyone. We are focused on growth and opportunity for all children who love ice skating. We provide affordable skating opportunities for advanced figure skaters, with scholarships available for lessons, figure skating, synchronized ice-skating, private coaching, and USFS tests.

Our organization also promotes healthy lifestyles through figure skating with a focus on academics for youth in Washington DC. It gives kids across DC, a place to continue to thrive and a chance to succeed in a sport that is often reserved for the affluent. Since FDIA is the only indoor ice rink within the city limits, the skaters represent the diversity of the entire city.
