About Us

The Fort Dupont Ice Arena, founded in 1996, is the only public indoor ice arena located in Washington, DC and the only skating facility in the region that provides free skating programs to children residing in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Our mission is to provide increased opportunity, education and inspiration to young people in Washington, DC and the surrounding area through ice skating and educational activities.  We currently serve over 3,500 children per year through the Kids On Ice program. Kids On Ice programs consist on Learn To Skate, advanced skating programs, and are supplemented with a variety of off-ice programming.

Given the risk factors that many District children face, stable and positive recreational and physical fitness activities are critical to healthy development. FFDIA’s Kids On Ice programs provide a catalyst for children even in disadvantaged circumstances to learn the fundamentals they need to reach their full potential in life. Fort Dupont Ice Arena, the only public indoor skating facility in Washington, DC, provides recreational, educational, and cultural programming to children and families from neighborhoods east of the Anacostia River.  FFDIA Kids On Ice serves children and youth residing in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Skaters from DC neighborhoods in Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8 participate in rink programming in the highest numbers.
