South Asia Pure Water Initiative, Inc.

South Asia Pure Water Intitiative, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the U.S and operates clean water projects in India, specifically BioSand Water Filters. These life-saving filters serve the villagers in poor rural communities, and to dateSAPWII has provided clean drinking water to 135,000 villagers.

Since it's inception in 2004, SAPWII has grown tremendously and has been recognized for its achievements and standards of practice. More recently, SAPWII's expansion across several states in India has led to an increase in awareness of the "water crisis" and of the "BioSand Water Filter" solution, thus generating much interest from a variety of sectors: individuals, corporations, the government, and media.

Grant Writer/Fundraiser Internship:

SAPWII is seeking a 6-month (or longer) volunteer intern, an undergraduate or graduate student working towards their degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field, with an interest in grant writing and nonprofit communications.

This is a part-time position, 20 hours/week, flexible schedule of your choice, and a home-based opportunity. Communication will be by phone and email.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a basic familiarity in writing grant proposals to secure grant funding. Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, excellent writing and computer skills, ability to work independently, and must be highly organized, self-driven, and manage multiple deadlines. A person who is people-oriented, prefers challenges that involve communication, and are capable of promoting networking and socializing is highly preferred. Furthermore, a passion for making a difference in people's lives is a must!

Roles & Responsibilities:

Research - Research new grant opportunities, research and apply for Corporate Giving Programs, research other potential funding sources and maintain contact with external agencies, create spreadsheet outlining grantor requirements and applicable deadlines.

Grant Writing - Draft full grant proposals for submission, write solicitations for potential donors, comply with grantor/funders requirements, prepare and process letters and correspondence, maintain funding opportunity database.

Fundraisers - Identify effective online fundraisers and worthwhile fundraisers for SAPWII to attend.

PR/Social Media Internship:

SAPWII is seeking a 6-month (or longer) volunteer intern, an undergraduate (Junior or Senior) or a graduate student working towards either their Bachelors or Masters in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field with an interest in nonprofit communications and public relations.

This is a part-time position, 20 hours/week, flexible schedule of your choice, and a home-based opportunity. Communication will be by phone and email.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a basic familiarity in communication and non-profit management, has a 3.0 GPA or higher, is passionate about making a difference in people's lives, has good verbal and written communication skills, is proficient in Microsoft Office suites and social media platforms, and is partnered with experienced professionals who will provide mentorship throughout this internship.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Social Media Networking - Increasing SAPWII's awareness and communications using social media platforms such as Facebook Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, etc.

Online Presence - Increasing SAPWII's presence on Google and other search engines, and writing and managing blogs on various topics related to our organization.

Public Relations Outreach - Identification of influential online journalists and bloggers, and establishing relationships with them to build SAPWII'S presence in these forums.

General Media - Branding, creation of media kits, public service announcements, and press releases.

Fundraisers - Creating effective online fundraisers and identifying worthwhile fundraisers for SAPWII to attend.

Internship Credit:

SAPWII will work with your College or University to provide proper credit and oversight with the potential for compensation based on experience. This internship will offer the intern an opportunity to play a significant role for a fast-growing non-profit organization.
