  • Mission

Our mission is to be the place in the neighborhood that brings lifelong learning, discovery, and joy to the community.

    About Us

The Helen Kate Furness Free Library was founded in October 1902 by a group of Nether Providence citizens as the Horace Howard Furness Free Library, named in honor of one of the founders, a renowned Shakespearean scholar whose estate, Lindenshade, was located in what is now Furness Park. The Helen Kate Library has a strong tradition of dedicated volunteers, which has been significant to the success of our beloved neighborhood library. With one of the smallest paid staffs of any library in Delaware County, Helen Kate relies upon the support of volunteers to provide quality service to our community.
