Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and making simple, decent, affordable, shelter a matter of conscience and action. Established in 1976, Habitat has since then built or repaired more than 400,000 houses worldwide.
Volunteers work with future homeowners to build or renovate houses that are then sold to partner families at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage. The money from the sale of each house goes into a revolving Fund for Humanity to support future building projects.
Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity has 23 years of service in partnership with low-income families in Eastern West Virginia. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.
Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity was organized in 1988 and incorporated on August 1, 1989 to eliminate substandard and poverty housing in Pendleton County, WV and to make safe, decent, affordable housing a matter of conscience and action. On July 1, 2010, Habitat for Humanity Greenbrier merged with us, expanding our service area to Greenbrier County also to include Pocahontas County.
By having partner families and volunteers work together in equal partnership, Habitat builds new relationships and a sense of community as well as many new houses. Since 1989, we have built and sold over 110 new houses in partnership with low-income families making their dream of homeownership a reality.
Additionally, we operate a year-round housing repair program that strives to preserve the existing housing stock in the communities we serve through owner-occupied repairs. We have performed over 350 repairs of this nature. Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity is the most productive Habitat affiliate in West Virginia.
