About Us

The South Cumberland AmeriCorps VISTA Project works to serve low income communities and individuals through capacity building initiatives with local organizations. This VISTA program is a successful partnership between Sewanee: the University of the South and the South Cumberland Community Fund, a local philanthropic organization. The South Cumberland VISTA Project works with nine community partners and organizations to sponsor 14 VISTA projects throughout Tennessee's South Cumberland Plateau region. Programs focus on agriculture, education, housing, health, economic development, grant writing, marketing, and program development. The VISTA Project is currently in its fifth year of serving the plateau community.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.
