  • About Us

Since its beginning in 1971, the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) has been dedicated to advancing the field of environmental education and supporting environmental educators in Canada, the United States and Mexico. As an association, NAAEE offers unique services in professional development, networking and access to relevant research for environmental educators and the organizations that train, employ and support those educators. A nonprofit organization with 501(c) (3) status, NAAEE is an integrated network of education professionals with members in more than 30 countries throughout the world.

NAAEE serves a diverse group of environmental educators and organizations including teachers and teacher educators, environmental education researchers, conservationists and conservation educators, naturalists and outdoor educators, and more. The Association’s members believe that education must go beyond consciousness-raising and instead prepare people for environmental stewardship, while motivating them to work together to resolve environmental problems. An environmentally literate society can make wise personal lifestyle and public policy decisions on energy, water, employment and many other issues connected to a healthy environment.
