South Orange-Maplewood Adult School

Founded in 1933 as a beacon of hope during the Great Depression, The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School has given our community education, enlightenment, and enjoyment for close to 80 years. The Adult School is a nonprofit educational organization that offers a wide array of affordable, high-quality classes, lectures, and trips to more than 1,600 local residents each semester.

The Adult School helps the members of our community lead fuller lives. They learn practical skills, discuss politics and social issues, renew their creative spirit, fulfill dreams of playing an instrument or speaking a new language, learn to dance, travel, and so much more. Thousands of residents eagerly anticipate each session’s offerings that add enjoyment and meaning to their lives.

In the summer the school offers a highly regarded children’s enrichment camp, the South Orange-Maplewood Children’s Summer Program.
