About Us

Founded in 1949, the FPAI is a non-governmental organization that pioneered the family planning movement in India. It is among the founding members of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the world’s foremost non-government provider and advocate of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and rights with more than 149 member associations. The 39 branches and 4 community based projects spread all over the country operate through FPAI headquarters in Mumbai.

The FPAI provides a wide spectrum of services encompassing maternal health, child survival, adolescent care, HIV/AIDS, safe abortion and other sexual and reproductive health services including family planning. The FPAI envisions health, particularly sexual and reproductive health, for all, especially the young and the marginalized, in the broad context of sustainable development leading towards the alleviation of poverty, stabilization of population, gender equality, and human rights. The mission of the organization is to support the rights of individuals to reproductive choices, including legal and safe abortion, to work towards reducing the spread and impact of STIs /HIV/AIDS and increasing access to gender-sensitive SRH information, and to eliminate discrimination, violence and abuse.
