Familias en Acción

About Us

Since 1998, Familias has worked closely with Latino/x/e communities across the state, providing direct health support and education. We have led this work with a clear understanding that inequitable public policies, racial discrimination, and systems that marginalize our communities and generate disproportionate climate degradation only exacerbate and perpetuate recurrences of chronic illnesses, food insecurity, and mental health decline in our community members. We know that these health inequalities, symptoms, and occurrences do not happen in a vacuum. Rather, they occur in an environment where natural and community resources have been exploited, over extracted, and polluted, leading to a cycle of inequitable effects that disproportionately affect those with existing health and social disparities in Latino/x/e communities.

OUR MISSION:

Strengthen the health and well-being of Latino families and communities.

OUR VISION:

Latinos are among the healthiest communities in Oregon.

OUR VALUES:

FAMILIAS - The value of immediate, extended and chosen family ties are essential to our communities. We come together to support and elevate each other as our Families do.

EMPODERAR - We take steps to have our strong and confident communities take control of their health and claim their rights.

CONFIANZA - With our history of providing critical health support to Latino/x/e communities, we are the trusted partner to bring resources and education to our Latino/x/e communities.

INNOVACIÓN - We seek to transform and influence new methods for health equity in our communities.

INCLUSIVIDAD - The communities we serve are vastly complex and diverse, spanning countries, continents, and cultures. We embrace the beautiful intersectionality present across our communities. As multilingual communities, we recognize language to be complex and multifaceted. Expressions of identity thorough a multi-lingual lens is ever-changing and we validate, embrace and celebrate the unique identity of each person. We identify as lifelong learners in our work toward inclusividad for all our communities.
