Green Branch is a mobile children’s library dedicated to fostering youth civic engagement and community activism, as well as promoting literacy success inside and outside of school. Its unique collection includes nearly 1000 children's books for youth in grades K-12 on topics such as environmentalism, diverse families, anti-racism, and strong women and girls. Since its founding in 2010, Green Branch has put exciting, socially-meaningful and culturally-relevant books into the hands of over 650 young readers by organizing more than 40 pop-up reading rooms at community events. Green Branch is now launching a new initiative targeting at-risk students in grades K-5 through visits to Oakland schools, offering students an interactive opportunity to engage with books about causes that interest them, get excited about reading, and become inspired to get involved in their schools and communities.
