Florida Organ Transplant Association (FOTA) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. It was established in 2002 by Dale Gilbert to support the transplant community in memory of his beloved wife. Thanks to the support of transplant recipients and donor families, it has grown over the years and is quickly becoming a leader in the South Florida transplant community. FOTA focuses on patient services, education, and funding research.
Patient Services
Florida Organ Transplant Association is dedicated to assisting patients during both the pre-operative stages and the rehabilitation process, providing financial assistance to cover urgent basic necessities needs such as transportation, medications, and so much more.
Education
A critical shortage of organ donors persists alongside a growing need of support. Every 13 minutes, someone is added to the waiting list totaling 115 each and every day. Community outreach and awareness remains paramount to support the transplant community.
Research
Advancements in the field of transplantation have increased the possibilities for those with end-stage organ failure to receive a transplant and have a second chance at life. FOTA’s funding aids research efforts seeking to discover and develop new methods to reduce and eliminate the use of immunosuppressant drugs.
