About Us

The Maryland Agricultural Resource Council (MARC) is organized for the benefit of the citizens of Maryland to enhance the rural economy and to foster conservation of agricultural and natural resources through educational and technical services.

This 149 acre piedmont farm located in central Baltimore County was once part of a larger 400 acre grain and then horse farm dating from the 1700s. Its main homestead was built in the 1800s. While most of the homestead is gone, the land remains in agriculture, now as a living outdoor classroom designed to allow the public unfettered access to the many different aspects of agriculture and provide farmers the opportunity to see innovative practices in a real-world setting. Maryland is losing 20,000 acres of farmland annually, and the average age of farmers is 60. The USDA estimates that we will need 750,000 new farmers by 2020 to match current and projected demands. MARC is utilizing the Ag-Center as a way to introduce the public to agriculture, foster a better understand and appreciation of agriculture, and build the next generation of farmers.
