About Us

IDG Benefits Fund (IDG-B) is a not-for-profit organization working to get benefits for America’s growing independent workforce, sometimes called gig economy workers. For our first initiative we are providing vision and telemedicine benefits to over 130,000 Uber, Lyft and other for-hire (black car service) drivers in New York State. In November 2017, IDG-B was founded as a vehicle for providing independent workers around the country with worker’s compensation, disability benefits, retirement assistance and other benefits typical employees take for granted. Today we are working for and with New York drivers-- 90% of whom are immigrants, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet. We work closely with the Independent Drivers Guild, a labor organization that educates workers, develops worker-organizers, and believes that organized people= organized power.
