  • Mission

Our mission is "To comfort the grief of an aching heart and ease the pain of an empty cradle." Our goal is to offer bereaved families hope through support by means of a resource volunteer network, remembrance opportunities and education to the healthcare community.

    About Us

Empty Cradle is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers that serves San Diego County and Riverside County area parents who have experienced the loss of a baby through miscarriage, TFMR, stillbirth, infant death, SIDS or SUID. Resource volunteers have offered emotional support, friendship, and community education since the group was organized in January 1982.

Empty Cradle was founded by 3 families that had experienced a loss during or shortly after pregnancy. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, there was little to no community support for parents experiencing pregnancy loss. These families led the way in creating a safe, supportive environment for parents to share in their grief and healing. All volunteers have experienced a loss during or shortly after pregnancy and support members through monthly meetings, written materials, internet resources, memory boxes provided to hospitals to be distributed to newly bereaved families, and partnership with the health care community.
