  • Mission

We are dedicated to delivering the highest standard of care for orphaned primates in the DRCongo, while working to ensure their protection in the wild

    About Us

Lwiro Primates Rehabilitation Center (LPRC) was officially created in 2003 to provide a safe place for orphan primates, victims of the bushmeat and pet trade.

Strategically situated only 4 km away from Kahuzi-Biega National Parc (KBNP) Lwiro is the ideal location for chimpanzee rehabilitation and local conservation education and outreach.

LPRC currently houses a total of 129 chimpanzees, along with 113 monkeys representing 14 different species, in addition to a variety of other confiscated wildlife: grey parrots, a porcupine, and turtles. LPRC plays an essential role as a valuable resource for conservation.
