About Us

Honored by the 2012-13 Catalogue for Philanthropy as "one of the best small charities in the Greater Washington region," our mission is to prevent and end homelessness by providing vulnerable individuals with a comprehensive range of services to help stabilize their lives. Each day, as part of our Daily Bread/Daily Needs program, we provide a comprehensive range of crisis services: twice daily meals; free showers and laundry; mail, telephone, and email access; personal care and hygiene supplies; health and safety items; transportation and emergency rental assistance; and emergency clothing and blankets. In 2012, Thrive DC served more than 108,000 meals to individuals in need and distributed 134,580 punds of emergency groceries. Through our Links program, men and women participate in enrichment activities, receive one-on-one support and life skills coaching, and connect with comprehensive health and legal services available onsite through Thrive DC community partners. In 2012, over 2,000 unduplicated men and women were provided social services at Thrive DC, including 2,141 referrals and 1,123 hours of case management. In order to search for jobs, prepare for interviews, and strengthen key networks with family and friends, Thrive DC's Computer Workshop enables participants to develop the skills they need to function in today's workplace. Finally, our intensive Real Opportunity employment preparedness program embodies our commitment to ending homelessness by providing men and women with the comprehensive support, rigorous training, and life-skills coaching needed to successfully enter the workforce and become self-sufficient. Our work is made possible by the time and effort of over 1,300 volunteers each year and by the financial support of the community . We also gratefully accept donations of hygiene supplies and in-season clothing for men and women.
