  • About Us

Southern California Basic Needs Collective strives to

    • Provide reliable food deliveries to our most vulnerable neighbors
    • Increase community knowledge about agroecology and food systems
    • Support immigrant and low-income communities as best as we can

This is a great opportunity for volunteers to gain skills in

    • Leadership
    • Community organizing
    • Nonprofit management
    • Communications
    • Social media
    • Web design
    • Educational advocacy
    • Product design

    The details

Opportunities for involvement include both remote and in-person options (must be able to travel between Ontario, CA, and La Puente, CA). We will tailor your experience to skills you want to gain and mentor you along the way. This is an 8-12 hour a month commitment, with set work dates for in-person volunteers.

    • Remote volunteers will be asked to commit a minimum of 2 hours a week, including attendance in virtual leadership meetings.
    • In-person volunteers will be responsible for community organizing and leading workdays, including 2 hours of farm work, 1 hour of product distribution, and 1-2 hours of deliveries on Saturdays. In-person volunteers will need to attend workdays at least twice a month.

    Next Steps

If this sounds like a cause you would like to support, send us an email at scbasicneeds@gmail.com expressing your interest. Please include a few sentences about yourself, what skills you would like to gain from working with our organization, what language(s) you speak, whether you have reliable access to transportation, and whether you would like to participate in-person or remotely. Of course, you are also welcome to do both!

    Additional Benefits

By volunteering with SoCal Basic Needs Collective, you will gain a deep understanding and for where our food comes from and the difficulties our farmers encounter to get food on our tables. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated widespread food insecurity, but this volunteer opportunity offers a chance to make a profound impact against this issue and ameliorate some of the suffering within our most marginalized community members.
