  • About Us

The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter & Services (MMHS&S) opened for services on November 26, 1990 and has steadily grown in space and service offerings since then—thanks largely to the contributions of funds and volunteers from our community. Our mission is to end homelessness in central Maine. MMHS currently consists of an emergency and day shelter, including meals, resource center with 24/7 support, and a wealth of programs to help homeless persons find the stability and build the skills they need to move toward stable living. In addition, we recently launched an exciting and ambitious project devoted to homeless youth called “Yes—Youth Empowerment.” This project includes not only long-term affordable housing for youth/young adults in the form of apartments that occupy our whole second floor, but also pre-employment programming for 16 to 24 year olds. Our goal is to empower these young people to live independent and stable lives as responsible citizens in our community.
