About Us

Biologists without Borders is a nonprofit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area that supports African wildlife conservation. We are looking for a volunteer to help us collect data on illegal ivory sales. This volunteer position could evolve into a paid position. The job entails searching the internet for illegal ivory sales and entering data into a computer (5 to 10 hours/wk). You could work from home and send the data to me via email.

Background

Biologists without Borders has been gathering data on illegal ivory sales in the U.S. via internet searches and our free mobile app (i of the Elephant). As a result of our intel, there have been six successful prosecutions of illegal ivory sells. In the most recent bust, the seller ranked fourth in the U.S. for online ivory items for sell in our 2018 report (for report go to: https://biologistswithoutborders.org/saving-elephants/. Hundreds of our other reports on illegal ivory sales are currently being investigated by State and Federal wildlife agencies. Fines levied against the sellers have been awarded to Biologists without Borders and other wildlife charities. These funds are then pumped back into our conservation efforts. In addition, we are collaborating with the National Whistleblowers Center and the Department of Homeland Security who are also pursuing prosecutions.

Our mobile app enables people to report where illegal ivory is being sold. Data from our internet searches and our mobile app are submitted to wildlife agencies for investigation and prosecution. We believe this reporting mechanism is unparalleled in the U.S., and uniquely engages the public to bridge activism, information sharing, and enforcement.
