Spirit Series, Inc.
SPIRIT SERIES--a transformational drama-based values & literacy initiative--delivers rigorous academic intervention and character education in grades four through eight with inspiring one-act historical biographies that students study, co-write, stage, and perform. Since its inception in 2001, 45,000 pre-teens and early adolescents have met the SPIRIT SERIES challenge, successfully bringing these one-act "inspirational biographies" to performance as they strive for academic excellence, forge a positive vision for themselves, and begin to become their own heroes.
The program continues to achieve remarkable outcomes in nearly 40 public, charter, and independent schools from California to Maine, addressing more than 70% of ELA Common Core Standards in each grade level it serves. In 2012, the SERIES began its transition to a national organization with expansion to a second location, SPIRIT SERIES - New England, and in December 2016 the SERIES was awarded a $100,000 Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to begin expanding program services to Northern California.
