Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue

  • Mission

We are committed to the safety, care and re-homing of cats and dogs in our community; providing education on caring for healthy pets, and promoting an environment where the animal-human bond is celebrated and nurtured.

    About Us

FMAR is a non-profit 501(c) 3 rescue for dogs and cats founded in April 2003 by Pete & Marcy LaFramboise, with the help of great volunteers and supporters. The shelter’s rapid growth required additional space, so the founders purchased a 6.5 acre farm that contained 2 barns. Throughout the past 20 years, FMAR’s has grown from one small building housing both cats and dogs, to include the Cat Haven, a large community cat area, and the Dog Retreat, which now houses up to 24 dogs. In addition, a third building exists as an isolation location for sick animals and Sumpter Township Strays.

FMAR is the reality of a vision created by Pete & Marcy and now through their retirement will continue to grow and thrive with the help and determination of all the dedicated staff, board members and volunteers.
