Atlanta - Latin America Scholarship

The Atlanta-Latin America Scholarship (ALAS) is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to foreign language training programs and cultural immersion opportunities for U.S.-based students with an interest in living and studying in Latin America.

Our Mission

ALAS was established with the belief that students today need opportunities to pick up foreign language skills and valuable international experience more than ever before. In an increasingly interconnected world, having the ability to seamlessly interact with people from a wide range of other cultures is critical. This is particularly true in the U.S. with regard to our neighbors in Latin America.

English and Spanish are by most estimates, two of the three most widely spoken languages in the world. They are also two of the most influential languages in the fields of business, science, entertainment and diplomacy.

We believe that young people will be better suited to lead productive social and professional lives when they have the opportunity to embrace the U.S.-Latin American relationship, while gaining functional Spanish language skills in the process. Moreover, we aim to reward deserving students by offering our scholarship opportunities to applicants who show a demonstrated record of hard work and determination to succeed.
