Ambedkarite Buddhist Association of Texas (ABAT) is a 501(c)(3) Federal Tax exempt, non-profit organization, whose primary purpose is to promote Ambedkar Buddhism by adopting the 3 basic principles:

Educate. Agitate. Organize

In 2015, ABAT was registered as 501(c)3 with a primary purpose to grow our community and raise awareness about Ambedkar Buddhism.

What We Do:

• • Community Outreach & Service:
  • Educational Support: ABAT has been instrumental in arranging book donations for various universities in Texas such as UT Austin, Southwestern University. Also, since 2018, we have been hosting student meets twice a year to provide guidance and assistance to the youth.
  • Toy Donation Drive: Since 2016, every December, we have been organizing an annual toy donation drive across multiple centers in the DFW metroplex to honor Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s call to “pay back to society.”
  • Food Donation Drives: Since 2023, we have been actively supporting local causes, including visits to foster care and adoption centers.
  • Educational (Dhamma) Monthly Talks: Held every second Sunday since 2015, these sessions focus on Buddha’s teachings like the Four Noble Truths, the Five Precepts, and the Eightfold Noble Path.
  • Weekly Meditation Sessions: Held every Saturday at the monastery in Garland, TX to promote mindfulness and loving kindness through full day/half day meditation sessions.
  • Cultural Representation: We maintain a presence at major local events like India’s Independence Day celebrations, where we distribute free literature on Buddhism and Dalit history to build broader networks.
  • Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din: We organize grand annual celebrations to commemorate Dr. Ambedkar's historic conversion to Buddhism.
  • Cyber Celebrations: Since 2016, we have been hosting digital events to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar, fostering global connectivity.
  • Social Connection: We foster a family atmosphere through residential camping trips and annual outings.
