About Us

Healthy civil discourse is a precondition for democracy. If we can’t talk with each other, we can’t govern ourselves as a nation - it’s that simple. Civic Health Project is committed to reducing the affective polarization - or extreme partisan animosity - that is increasingly causing Americans to treat fellow citizens as enemies and impeding effective self-governance. Civic Health Project is helping lead the way in addressing the causes and consequences of partisan tribalism in the United States, and working to restore healthy civil discourse in our citizenry, politics, and media.

One of the ways Civic Health Project scales and accelerates efforts to reduce affective polarization is through grantmaking. Civic Health Project sponsors academic research and on-the-ground initiatives aimed at reducing polarization and restoring civic health in American society. We are continuously researching and vetting the most promising work by practitioners and academics in the depolarization field and aim to play a catalytic role by driving philanthropic co-investment to our funded projects.
