About Us

Hope for African Children is a registered non-governmental organization founded to address the enormous problems faced by thousands of Ugandan children who have either been orphaned by AIDS or live with parents or relatives struggling with illnesses related to their HIV infection. We strive to increase the capacity of local communities to provide support services to orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda.

Hope for African Children exists to bring hope to the children of Africa. We believe that African communities have been plagued with unrelenting poverty and disease for far too long and that the only way to change this pattern is to reach children. We strive to help this generation of children in their own lives and in their communities.

We began our program in the Rakai District of southern Uganda, the suspected epicenter of the HIV/AIDS virus, by selling a couple of ducks to buy toothbrushes and other hygiene tools for children who had never had such things. Today, our efforts have progressed beyond toothbrushes and have the potential to change children, families, and communities forever.

Currently, we sponsor the education of a number of children, an opportunity they never would have dared to imagine. We also give these children a childhood through activities like a soccer club, and having organized sports led to inter-district tournaments. In addition, we pioneered HIV/AIDS education programs in local schools.

Besides creating projects which directly help children, we started outreach programs to impact the community as a whole. Our poverty eradication projects enable families to financially support themselves and the education of their children. We have begun many projects to help the community, but none are as important as programs which instill the value of service and leadership in our children.
