About Us

The purpose of the Friends of Theodore Roosevelt Island is to work in partnership with the National Park Service to protect and preserve the living memorial that honors the conservation legacy of former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, and to enhance the public’s use and enjoyment of the island as a natural park located within a major urban center. The Friends of Theodore Roosevelt Island engages its members and volunteers by helping provide educational programs about Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency and interpretive programs about the natural and cultural resources that exist on Theodore Roosevelt Island. Current programs at Theodore Roosevelt Island include numerous ranger-led educational programs for school-age children, family oriented nature hikes, clean-up days that enlist volunteers throughout Metro DC to assist with trail and riverbank maintenance and a volunteer docent program to greet and provide information to park visitors.
