    About Us

SREHUP's Breaking Bread Community provides crucial support to unhoused individuals and their animal companions through shelter, case management, comprehensive wrap-around services, and assistance in securing permanent housing. We are seeking a Community Development Block Grant from Upper Darby Township to enhance our impact in alignment with the Housing First model. Our primary objectives are to:

    • Reduce the duration of time individuals experience homelessness.
    • Increase the number of households successfully transitioning to permanent housing.
    • Minimize the rate of return to homelessness within the first year after the program exit.

Extensive research underscores the significant positive effects of housing stability and the detrimental consequences of housing instability. Therefore, our approach prioritizes helping people obtain and maintain housing, using it as a stable foundation for accessing necessary community services and opportunities. The Housing First philosophy ensures swift connections to permanent housing with minimal preconditions, recognizing that providing tailored support enables individuals experiencing homelessness to achieve stability. This model is not only effective in fostering positive outcomes but also offers significant cost savings for communities.
