The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra
The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (SJO) believes in the power of music to transform individuals, schools and communities. Based in Culver City, the SJO brings dynamic music education residencies into classrooms, with a renewed focus on working with students in underserved communities, in addition to commissioning and performing symphonic jazz compositions and throwing free concerts across Southern California.
Under the leadership of Music Director Mitch Glickman, the SJO reaches 3,400 students each week and has served over 50,000 young people and their families throughout Los Angeles County during its 14-year history.
The organization has been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, California Arts Council, and Turnaround Arts - part of the President’s Committee for the Arts.
