  • About Us

TRACES brings history to life! Our museum and educational organization presents the unknown and lesser-known stories of the Midwest and World War II, with the goal of preserving them and sharing them with the wider regional/national community. In particular connections are shown between the Midwest and Germany or Austria from 1933-1948 through publications, exhibits, talks, and educational programming. Iowa Quakers took in European refugees; Germans were kept in POW camps in the Midwest and US soldiers and airmen were in Nazi POW camps; Anne Frank had an Iowan penpal. TRACES works with these stories and much more, with both its permanent museum collection and many off-site programs.
