About Us

Mission: To mobilize, advocate and empower African Women living in Oregon and Southwest Washington by providing a culturally supportive and nurturing environment that builds the capacity of the community to help itself and allows other members of the community to reach their highest potential through support, guidance and educational opportunities.

Organization Overview: The African Women Coalition (AWC) was founded in 2003. Our mission is to mobilize, advocate for, and empower African women to reach their highest potential through support, guidance, advocacy and educational opportunities. The core areas of the organization includes: membership building, family life skills and language literacy program and youth engagement and leadership development, and health education and advocacy.

The AWC is composed of African immigrant and refugee women and others working to empower African women through leadership, advocacy, and educational opportunities. We provide in-home ESL, trainings, youth programs, and service referrals.
