About Us

From our corner in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago, Su Casa envisions justice and peace in our families, in our community, and in our world.

The Central American Martyrs Center/Su Casa’s mission is to care for each other by creating a community of hospitality and healing for families in crisis in the Catholic Worker tradition. As we work to fulfill this mission, we are guided by and practice these core values:

  • HOSPITALITY: Our home is intentionally bilingual, welcoming families experiencing homelessness who speak English and/or Spanish, for long-term transitional housing.
  • COMMUNITY: We work and live together in a spiritual intentional community. We are joined in our efforts by many friends, donors, our board, and supporters in our extended community.
  • SOLIDARITY AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH : We serve our neighbors by sharing our physical, intellectual and spiritual resources.
  • SIMPLICITY: We live simply. We volunteer and share our gifts, and we learn together.
  • NONVIOLENCE: We promote a revolution of the heart, resisting systemic violence, injustice, and oppression.
  • KAIROS: We find opportunity for action in times of crisis.
