Blue Horizon Sailing

Blue Horizon Sailing empowers youth and community members through equitable access to the waterfront, hands-on sailing education, and pathways to Blue Economy careers. Our programs build confidence, teamwork, and environmental stewardship while opening doors to new opportunities on and off the water.

Blue Horizon Sailing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Our mission is to provide equitable access to the waterfront, hands-on sailing education, and pathways to careers in the blue economy. We believe that time on the water can inspire confidence, teamwork, and environmental stewardship — while opening doors to new opportunities for youth and adults alike.

We serve a diverse and vibrant community where access to the waterfront has long been limited. Through community sail days, after-school programs, and workforce training, we empower local residents — especially students from public schools and underrepresented backgrounds — to discover sailing, science, and maritime skills in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

At Blue Horizon, we value curiosity, community, and collaboration. Our programs are volunteer-driven, built on the belief that shared time on the water can build bridges across cultures, generations, and neighborhoods. Volunteers are at the heart of what we do — helping us make Brooklyn’s waterfront a space for learning, joy, and belonging for all.
