The Outpost is recognized as one of the top folk music venues in America. It is an all-volunteer nonprofit in Montclair, N.J. that stages 20 concerts yearly and puts together teams to feed, clothe, shelter and get toys to those in need.
Its 100 volunteers have special commitments to six organizations in particular:
In addition, Outpost volunteers provided production and promotion support to the 2011 Concert for Haiti, held in Montclair for the benefit of Edeyo, an organization rebuilding schools in the earthquake-ravaged nation. The Outpost will have the same support roles when the benefit is staged again in early 2012.
The Outpost also stages cultural events and programs with a social, educational, intellectual or artistic bent. Outposters can be found getting together to dine, hike and sing, visit museums, pubs and exhibits, or watch a movie.
