Sustainable Aquidneck’s mission is to move Aquidneck Island toward self- sufficiency. We intend to promote an island-wide sustainable practice initiative. Our intention is to collaborate with the community in creating local solutions to problems. We will create public-private partnerships and coalitions to develop a thriving sustainable economy. We want a local economy that maximizes our resources while preserving, restoring and enhancing Aquidneck Island’s precious natural environment and historical character.
Our current projects include Island Community Farms, located on 8 acres of preserved farmland, consisting of a Childrens Garden, demonstration gardens, independent micro-farms, a community garden, permaculture food forest and a composting operation. We also host community events covering a variety of topics covering local food, farming and permaculture.
