About Us

The Marie Colvin Journalists’ Network (MCJN) is a registered charitable organisation supporting women journalists in the Arab world.

Founded in 2016 in memory of Sunday Times journalist Marie Colvin, who was killed in Syria in February 2012 while reporting the cruelty of war, MCJN is an online community of female journalists working in the Arab world. MCJN continues to be inspired by Marie, who took every opportunity to offer advice and mentoring to up-and-coming journalists and believed passionately in the power of media to create change. Today, MCJN is a vibrant, bilingual (Arabic/English), peer support network, offering a range of practical, professional and emotional support services including mentoring, counselling, training opportunities and emergency assistance. Through MCJN's holistic support to its members – predominantly local women journalists facing extensive risks and constraints while reporting from across the crisis-affected region – the Network aims to contribute to a more gender-balanced media in the Middle East and North Africa.
