Surf Lobitos Peru

Enjoy the wave, promote the locals! Our mission is simple: help spread the love of the surfing and the ocean. At Surf Lobitos, we provide quality surf lessons to all ages and levels. We not only want to share the love of surf, but also support the local grooms (surfer kids) reach their dreams and to protect the natural resource that Lobitos relies on.

To give you a little background, Lobitos is a small town located in Northern Peru and only 2 hours from the border of Ecuador. Lobitos is primarily a fisherman's village that used to be occupied by the Peruvian military. Once the majority of the military left, buildings were abandoned and the city, which was once a booming petroleum town, turned into a ghost town. However, the culture and deep love of the waves remained. The most common way to describe Lobitos is full of loving people and barreling waves. It's exactly those two things that we strive to promote and protect.

Our goal at Surf Lobitos is to support the locals connect with the waves. These kids and SHRED! Yet, they're not receiving the opportunity to compete in the national Peruvian surfing circuit like many others at their level, due to lack of funding and sponsorship. So much of Peru's surfing is focused near Lima, but we want to help give these kids their spotlight too. Through proceeds from surf lessons and donations, we want to help sponsor the groms in their competitions, along with proving professional surf training and mentorship from co-founder, Gino Perez. But the kids have to work for their sponsorship; they have to put in their effort, both in and out of the water. Surf Lobitos requires all Team members to be active in school with good grades, constant training, and participate in all environmental conservation activities sponsored by Surf Lobitos. Surfing can teach them discipline, patience and hope, and that's just what Surf Loitos hopes to inspire.

Not all locals are going to be pro surfers- but we do hope they get the same opportunity to enjoy the waves- especially the girls! Surf Lobitos provides free surf lessons to all locals that want it. Latin American admittedly suffers from the machismo mentality and we want to break that ideogely with girls and the best way to do that in Lobitos is though surfing. Let the girls SHRED IT UP!

Our third goal is ocean conservancy. Many will agree that waves are what bring tourists, but the people keep them coming back. Without the waves, Lobitos would be lacking its soul, so we want to do all that we can by promoting awareness and doing out part to be more environmentally conscious. Through sharing research, speaking with locals at town halls, coordinating with other local NGO's and putting on beach cleaning days, we want to do our part to save the waves and help spread awareness to the town about the importance of the ocean!
