Back Bay Chorale

About Us

Founded in 1973, Back Bay Chorale is a 110-member auditioned chorus that performs classical masterpieces as well as important contemporary works. “Bridges,” our community engagement initiative, connects us to those who traditionally have less access to the arts. Artistic Director Scott Allen Jarrett enters his 18th year leading the Chorale, along with Associate Conductor and Director of Community Engagement Katherine Chan and a small administrative and marketing staff. We rehearse on Monday evenings at Emmanuel Church, located in Boston’s Back Bay. Concerts are usually performed in churches located in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston and in Cambridge, as well as in Sanders Theatre at Harvard University. We have also performed at the Hatch Shell on Boston’s Esplanade, at Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall in Boston, at Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, and at venues in Portland, ME, Providence, RI and New Bedford, MA. Our annual revenue is ordinarily roughly $325,000.

We have a passion for our mission to share the power of voice, advancing the spirit of community, and for our vision to sustain a thriving community of musicians who are dedicated to the best in the choral arts and who strive to be leading participants in Boston’s musical, cultural and civic conversation.
