Guided by Vision thatAll children grow to their fullest potential through effective school education system” LOKMITRA is strongly pursuing its Mission thatEvery child from the disadvantageous section of society completes elementary education to become a constant learner and empowered member of the society”.

Following are it organizational Strategies and Goals

·     Enable children to learn and develop through the public education system by promoting improvement in Elementary Education System of Uttar Pradesh.

·     Inspire teachers to become a reflective practitioner, inculcating the culture of peer learning and democratic management.

·     Motivate parents and children to participate in school education and its governance to target learning outcomes that improve social and economic status.

·     Engage with the public education system in a multi-pronged and multi-level manner, generating effective ideas and practices for systemic and sustainable improvement leading to effective and positive learning outcomes.

Goal 1 - Improve the learning outcomes in at least 200 state government Primary & Upper Primary Schools in about 5 rural blocks and 3 urban areas of Uttar Pradesh and thereby ensure good enrolment of all children with high attendance.

Goal 2 Promoting Civil Society involvement for vitalizing governance of elementary education

Major Achievements - Lokmitra has supported about 500 schools, which includes 100 schools with where we have provided pedagogy input. A third of these 100 schools have shown good progress in learning and enrollment. There has been about 20 to 40 percentage point improvement in learning outcome and attendance in these schools in one academic year. So far 10,000 out of school children identified and provided supplementary education, resulting in one-third of them joining schools. During 2005 Lokmitra innovated the practice of Teachers Peer Learning Forum and SMC federation.

Best Practices - Lokmitra has evolved a School Improvement Activity System that is based on a culture of peer learning and democratic management. Lokmitra innovated and pioneered the practice of Teachers Peer Learning Forum and that of Federating School Management Committees at Block level and this practice is being replicated by many other NGOs. Lokmitra has evolved the model of mobilizing Out of School children and adolescents and provide the supplementary education so that they complete school education.

Current Outreach (Aug 2019) – Lokmitra is directly working with 100 schools & its 300 teachers, 1,100 SMC members to impact the education of 12,000 school children in 4 districts (Banda, Jaunpur, Raebareli & Saharanpur) of Uttar Pradesh and Haridwar city of Uttarakhand. About 3,000 Out of School Children are being provided supplementary education and are in the process of getting mainstreamed. About 20 more districts are being reached out through workshops in collaboration with NGOs etc. We have an experienced & inclusive team of 35 full time and 70 part-time members. Current partnership is with Tata Trusts, American India Foundations, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Oxfam India ITC Ltd and online fundraising through crowdfunding sites like GlobalGiving & ImpactGuru.

Scaling up our Impact: In the next three years, LOKMITRA intends to work with 200 schools so as to directly impact the learning of around 20,000 children and enhance the teaching practices of 600 teachers.
