About Us

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is a Quaker non-profit organization that has worked on peace and justice issues since 1917.  AFSC is devoted to service, development, and peace programs throughout the world. Our work is based on the belief in the worth of every person, and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice.

The AFSC office of Arizona opened in 1981 in Tucson, Arizona thanks to the efforts and support of Pima Monthly Meeting.  Since the AFSC Arizona’s inception, Pima Monthly Meeting and its members have been instrumental in helping to maintain the work of this office.

AFSC Arizona works to reduce the prison population and improve conditions for incarcerated people in Arizona using research and documentation, advocacy, and policy reform.  As one of Arizona’s only prisoner advocacy organizations, AFSC Arizona confronts mass incarceration and the prison industrial complex through sentencing reform, halting prison expansion, and improving conditions of confinement.
