African Women's Millennium Initiative on Poverty and Human Rights

  • About Us

The goal of the African Women Millennium Initiative on Poverty and Human Rights (AWOMI) is to empower impoverished women and youth and enhance their leadership and rights in national and global policy processes and initiatives to end poverty. AWOMI’s priority focus for the three coming years will be to build knowledge on economic and social rights as they relate to feminization of poverty; monitoring economic policies and agreements; tracking down poverty elimination resources; developing advocacy mechanisms for ensuring that resources, including those mobilized for the MDGs are put in the hands of women and youth living in urban slums and rural areas; strengthening African women's and youth mass mobilization and social movement building for equality and rights.
