About Us

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is one of America’s leading festival opera companies, performing a four-opera festival season in May and June each year at the Loretto-Hilton Center in Webster Groves. Audiences traveled from every zip code in the St. Louis metropolitan area, from 48 states, and from as far away as Australia and Germany to attend the company’s 2017 Festival Season. The company has received national attention for its highly successful New Works, Bold Voices commissions of world premieres on contemporary American subjects, its long history of developing the next generation of great opera stars, its success in building young and diverse audiences for opera, and its meaningful impact across the St. Louis region through education and community programs.


The organization's total operating budget is $10.5M, with approximately 30 full-time employees in residence in St. Louis. During the festival season as a result of seasonal employment, the company expands to close to 500 individuals on payroll. The 2018 Festival Season features Verdi's 'La traviata,' Gluck's 'Orfeo & Euridice,' Blitzstein's 'Regina,' the world premiere of the new two-act opera 'An American Soldier' by Huang Ruo and David Henry Hwang, and the annual 'Center Stage' concert. The season will mark the company's 43rd season.
