Habitat for Humanity of Saline County

OUR MISSION:

Habitat for Humanity of Saline County is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing & homelessness in Saline County by building decent, affordable housing for people in need in our community.

Habitat for Humanity of Saline County is a Christian based organization that works in partnership with God & People everywhere, from all walks of life.

The focus of our Mission is not simply the construction of homes, but also the development & empowerment of people. Our organization seeks to break down barriers & form partnerships among people from all walks of life. Relationships are the most important thing we build.

OUR METHOD:

Using volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and material, Habitat for Humanity of Saline County builds homes with the help of future homeowners, Habitat partner families.

Habitat partner families commit to help in the construction of their home and the homes of other partner families. Our organization requires each partner family to complete a minimum of 300 sweat equity hours with an additional 150 hours required of each able bodied person over the age of 18.

Houses are sold to partner families for no profit, financed through affordable, no interest mortgages. Mortgages are issued over a fixed period, usually 20 years. Monthly mortgage payments are used to support the construction of more houses through the revolving Fund for Humanity.

OUR RESULTS:

Through the work of Habitat for Humanity of Saline County, low income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Local churches have risen to the challenge of practical discipleship. The community has improved as citizens join together to successfully tackle a significant social problem. The work has revitalized neighborhoods by building new homes on lots with dilapidated housing and also on vacant lots.

To date, our organization has provided homes for fifty-one Habitat partner families. Habitat plans to build eight homes this year. The giving of volunteer labor, money and material makes all of this happen.
